Two time Grammy award winning producer, and #1 hit songwriter Gary Nicholson was inducted into the Texas Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
A session guitarist in high demand, and a world traveling performer, Gary has written and performed across the genres, and has had numerous artists record his songs. At last count, there are over 500 recordings of his songs, by artists such as BB King, Etta James, Garth Brooks, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, New Grass Revival, Ringo Starr, Robert Plant, Reba, Keb Mo, George Jones, Stevie Nicks, and Gregg Allman, among others.
Gary has produced two Grammy Award winning albums for Delbert McClinton. He has also guided projects by artists as diverse as “blue-eyed soul” singer Wynonna, Americana singer/songwriter Chris Knight, blues rocker Jimmy Thackery, and Grand Ole Opry star Pam Tillis.
His work has been included in many major motion pictures and television shows, including “Falling and Flying,” featured in the Oscar winning film “Crazy Heart” performed by Jeff Bridges.
Gary has graced stages such as The Bottom Line in New York, the House of Blues in Boston, Poor David’s Pub in Dallas, The Cactus Café in Austin, The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA, and many others.
Even with the steady pace of writing and producing, the appeal of the live performance stays with him. Gary enjoys sharing the stories behind the songs, and audiences enjoy hearing how the songs were born, and how they ended up being recorded by the various artists.
